What’s an Astrology Decan?
It's possible that nobody defined Zodiac decans better than the late George Llewellyn, nearly 100 years ago. In his book A to Z Horoscope Maker and Delineator, he wrote, “ In recent years, the word Deccan has been applied to a one third division (ten degrees) Of the Zodiac signs, but research shows that originally decans, and faces, as they were also called, had a reference to the constellations.” He states that Babylonians, Egyptians, and ancient Persians understood these decans. He said there were 36 of them, 3 for each sign.
The Egyptian astrologer Ptolemy is credited with assigning ruling planets to each of the three decans of each Sign. While each Zodiac Sign has its own ruling planet, there is also a planet that influences each decan of each sign. Somewhere along the way, astrologers decided this system was not completely accurate, and did an update of which planets ruled each decan. Why We Have Decans
Decans help us understand ourselves a little more. Astrology is so complex, you can't understand all of it just by learning Sun signs. There are countless things to take into consideration when you want to fully understand. You will want to understand things like Rising Signs, the Twelve Houses, Moon Signs, and Ruling planets. What Decans Tell You
The Sun Signs have classic traits that you may or may not have. Most people have most, if not all of the traits. Your decan helps decide which you have. The Zodiac Decans
Now that we understand specifically what decans are, let's look at all thirty-six of them in depth. Let's read a tiny bit about some major attributes of each sign, and then break it down by all three decans, including the dates that those decans fall under.
Aries Decans
Aries falls between March 21st and April 19th. Aries is ruled by the planet Mars which makes them forceful, courageous, and temperamental. They have a fiery personality, can be hardheaded, but typically they don't hold grudges.
First
March 21st to March 30th and is ruled by the planet Mars. These are the most energetic Aries people, and they love to live life to the fullest.
Second
March 31st to April 9th and is ruled by the Sun. These people are very ambitious and can struggle with their egos.
Third
April 10th to the 20th and is ruled by Jupiter. This is the most Individualistic Aries. They are bold and restless.

Taurus Decans
Taurus goes from April 20th to May 20th. Taurus is ruled by the planet Venus and that makes them lustful, hedonistic, and physically demonstrative. They can be manipulative and materialistic, but they are fabulous homemakers.
First
April 21st to the 30th and is ruled by Venus. This is the most sensual and self-indulgent Taurus, but they are lovers, not fighters.
Second
May 1st to May 10th and is ruled by Mercury. This is the most flexible Taurus and they may bore people with their highly realistic view of the world.
Third
May 11th to the 21st and is ruled by Saturn. These Tauruses are some of the most disciplined people on the planet, and they are highly stable and loyal individuals.

Gemini Decans
Gemini goes from May 21st to June 21st. Gemini is ruled by the planet Mercury, which makes them quick, and intellectual, but they can also be deceitful. They are restless, independent, and ambitious.

May 22nd to the 31st and is ruled by Mercury. They are observational and curious and easily distracted by new, interesting things.
Second

Cancer Decans
Born from June 22nd to July 22nd, Cancer is ruled by the moon, which makes them emotionally changeable, sometimes unstable, and they can be delusional. They can have emotional blowups, be quite dramatic, but they are also extremely nurturing.

June 22nd to July 1st and is ruled by the Moon. They are highly loyal, deeply sensitive, and can be jealous lovers.

Virgo Decans
Virgo goes from August 23rd to September 22nd. Virgo is ruled by the planet Mercury, and it makes them quick, intellectual, and they can be deceitful when they want to be. They can be critical to the point of being anal retentive, but they are one of the hardest working signs in the Zodiac.

Scorpio Decans
Scorpio goes from October 24th to November 21st. Scorpio is ruled by the planet Pluto, which makes them into extreme power, self mastery, and they can fall into corruption. Unlike Aries, typically a Scorpio will hold a grudge, and they can be very obsessive, but they are probably the most sensual sign of the Zodiac.
