Discover the benefits of collaboration, what can go wrong when you work with others, and how much more can be accomplished with a team than working alone.
We have all done great things on our own. Major lifetime accomplishments that define who we are don’t always get done all by us, though. Oftentimes, we have a support group, at least cheering us on, and without them, we would not have the strength to get everything done. Then, there are teams. Our teams of good people help us to do more, do it better, and sometimes, they help us to get it done faster. Join SpiritualBlossom to learn all about the value of unifying with other people to get things done. Find out what a team is, and the benefits of working all on our own for some things. Then find out the pros and the cons of working with other people and how to resolve problems groups of people can run into.
What Makes a Team?
A team is a group that comes together to work toward a common goal. They share knowledge, resources, and they divide work up based on skills and talents so each person’s abilities create the maximum impact to work toward success. Teams don’t always work well together, however, and good leadership can direct people in ways poor leadership can’t. You can see some of the most powerful impacts due to teamwork in the animal kingdom amongst bee or ant colonies, and that is because each member doesn’t think about which of them gets the most credit. They just focus on doing their part to accomplish their goals. Learn how to accomplish goals and make dreams come true here: How to Make All Your Dreams Come True
The most successful teams take into account each individual’s capabilities and assign them the best job based on that. The most successful teams also include members who take pride in their role within the team, and people who want to work with their team to make great things happen. Not all teams are so well organized, however, and being a part of a poorly organized team can make you wonder if it is worth it to bother with working with other people at all. It is. Sometimes, you need to fix problems within the team, or find another one. Working alone has its benefits too, though. Divorce can show you how to do things on your own and you can read about that here: Surviving Your Divorce
The Benefits of Working Alone
At some point in our lives, we all do something or another all on our own. Some people have been stuck dealing with poorly run teams and they prefer to work by themselves. Some people’s lives, goals, and talents enable them to accomplish most everything they need by themselves. Even if you need a team, you will need to do something or another by yourself someday. There are countless benefits to being able to do things by yourself.
Unbroken Focus
Being able to do your work with no interruptions is a great benefit of working by yourself. In a team setting, people will need to speak with you, and breaking your focus too often can cost you valuable time and productivity. People who don’t have a private workspace are interrupted 29% more often than those who do and it is estimated that it takes close to 25 minutes to get back to where you were before an interruption. Working alone will minimize the risk of these issues. No Drama
Working alone means you don’t have to deal with the issues other people can create. You don’t have to deal with someone else’s complaints about relationships and you don’t need to wait on somebody to show up on time to get started. You also won’t have to worry about a team mate not doing their share and you won’t need to deal with personality conflicts. You are more likely to be able to set your own schedule when you work on your own and have more control over the finished product if nobody else is working with you. Libras say they can’t stand drama- unless it is a good play on stage. Read more about Libra here: Libra Traits and Love Compatibility
You Do it Your Way
Speaking of having control of the finished product- if you work on your own, you are free to do some things in your own way. You can take breaks on your own schedule, and you can show up and leave when it suits you instead of waiting on other people. You can listen to music at any volume you want when you are working or work in complete silence if you prefer. You can have your pets present, and you can have your workspace any way you want it. Some people prefer to work alone to being in a team because they can do things their own way. Read about self-love here: Practicing Self Love
The Pros and Cons of Teamwork
With all the benefits of working alone, why would anybody work in a team at all? The reality is, we can’t do every single thing all on our own. Even if we do something by ourselves, the things we buy to support our endeavors were made by someone else. So they somehow help us. We are never self-taught. We learn by watching other people or reading what they write about it. So, we are never entirely on our own. Teamwork is worth it, but it doesn’t come without problems. Any problems that arise can be solved, though.
The Pros
When you have more people, you have more good things and more can get done. You have an extra reserve of physical and mental resources you can pull from when you have a team. There are more talents and more hands doing the work. Some people see the benefit of a group and don’t want to ever be on their own because of this.
Pooled Resources
A group of friends started an organization that met in public for liturgies eight times a year. Each of them officiated well enough to lead services on their own, but they took turns. Some of them drove the ones to meetings who had no transportation. Others bought supplies others could not afford. Some of them had more storage space for materials in their homes and so they kept the group’s materials with them. They found they did better work together because they shared all they had. You and your team can do this too. Tauruses can be quite resourceful. Read about them here: Taurus Zodiac Traits and Love Compatibility
A Variety of Talents
All teams consist of people who are different from one another. Some people are good at conflict resolution and other people are better at making people laugh. Some of your teammates will be good at problem solving and others will be good at contacting everybody. Some of your teammates will be good at organizing parties and others will be good at bringing in new people to the team. Each of us is good at some things and terrible at other things. With a team, you have more people to do more good things than you would if you worked alone. Virgos are great at organizing and you can read about their special Zodiac Flowers here: What is the Best Virgo Flower?
More Manpower
The more people you have to work with, the more, well, PEOPLE you have to work with. Ten people are capable of getting ten times more done than one person can. This also means there will be more people to accommodate, but it means more people will be there to accommodate you and the team. If one person is absent, the more other people you have, the more chance you will have someone who can fill in for them. More people means more, and that is a good thing. The Cons
Working with a team isn’t all fun and games. Sometimes problems can arise, but each problem can be solved with the right leadership. Team members sometimes compete with one another for credit and disagreements on how things should be done can hold up progress. One of the most disheartening issues though, is when a teammate is not doing their part, especially if the rest of the team has to do their own work and make up for the work somebody else is refusing to do.
Competition From Within
A team is supposed to be a unified group that is working together for a common cause. Some people will use the team’s accomplishments to make themselves look good and some people will try to take more credit than they should. They may belittle other people’s contributions and brag that they did most, if not all of the good work by themselves. Teams can disintegrate when team members fight for glory. Remember that the work people have done together is the accomplishment of all the members of the team, and if one person is pretending to be solely responsible, they should be reminded they did not work alone. Scorpio’s can be very competitive, and you can read about them here: Scorpio Traits and Love Compatibility
Disagreements
In a group of people, eventually, there will be some form of disagreement on how things should be done. This can turn into hard core fighting, and it can halt progress. Some people prefer a democratic approach to solve this problem by having all the members vote on what the best way to do things is. Other people elect a leader whose decision is final. Being flexible to change plans when the initial way of doing things is not working is important, and listening to what each member has to say will help everybody to stay involved. Nasty conflicts should be resolved so the team does not struggle with being uncomfortable. Read what to do when you are uncomfortable here: What Should I Do if I Am Uncomfortable?
Laziness from Team Members
We have all worked with teams before. Some of us have had team members who were not doing their share. Other team members have to shoulder an extra burden to make up for what others are refusing to do. Little else can be as frustrating as this can be, especially when leadership knows about it and won’t do anything about it. If your leaders know and won’t fix it, you can do one of two things to try and help. First, talk to your teammate and ask them why they are not doing their part. They might need help, or guidance. If, for some reason, after you have tried to help them, they still won’t do their part, the rest of the team has no choice but to do their work as well. The final goal will depend on it. Geminis are great at mediating, so you might want to ask a Gemini to talk to a teammate about their performance. Read more here: Gemini Zodiac Traits and Love Compatibility
Group Magic in Spiritual Practice
So, in your career, homelife, and in public, working with other people can be beneficial, but what about in magical practice? Does working with a group help you to make things happen magically? It can, but you have to have the right group of people. A magical working team needs unified focus from all the members for it to function properly. If anybody is against the team’s goals, their magic will work against the group’s magic. An example of a magical working group can be a healing prayer circle or a group of people who chant together for world peace. To put together a good magical working team, make sure all the members are focused on making changes, showing up, and each person is able to put their own problems aside long enough to lend their energy to the magic. Is There Power in Numbers?
From 1954 through 1968, countless Americans banded together to end segregation and racial discrimination in the US. Many groundbreaking events led to their success, but the Montgomery Bus Boycott is an example of how strength in numbers creates change. On December 1, 1955, Rosa Parks, an African American seamstress and member of the NAACP refused to give up her seat to a white man and she was arrested for this. So African Americans refused to ride the buses. The city bus line lost between 30,000 and 40,000 bus fares daily during the boycotts. The result was, the buses not only in the city and the state were desegregated, but all buses in the entire nation were. Tens of thousands of people banded together to create change. Yes, unifying gets results.
There really is strength in numbers. Victories can be achieved on your own, but big projects and accomplishments are easier with a team. With more people come more great ideas, more people doing the work, and best of all, you have like minded individuals to celebrate your wins with. There will be times when you need to step away from the group to concentrate on your part, but afterwards, you will all bring your good work together to make a unified whole. May you and your team climb the highest mountains, successfully overcome the most difficult obstacles, and shine in all your glory together. So Be It.
