The Top Ten Virgo Zodiac Flowers

By Lady Saoirse

Read about the Zodiac Sign Virgo and their magical Zodiac flowers. Find out how Virgos can use their special flowers for their own spirituality and magic.

Virgos are born from August 23 to September 22. They are hard-working individuals who stay busy and take pride in a job well done. They are expert organizers who know just how to make things run smoothly and they will surprise you with their wonderful sense of humor. The dark side of Virgo is they are not always the best team players, and are often unhappy unless they are in charge. They believe their way of doing things is the best way to do them, and they prefer to keep rules, especially rules they have made.

They aren’t all work and rules, though. They genuinely care about their friends and family, and they like nothing better than putting their hard-earned money to good use on a family vacation- one they planned of course! They know how to manifest their own destiny through careful planning and hard work, and that is the secret to their magic. They also have magical flowers associated with their zodiac sign. This article will discuss ten special Virgo flowers and how they can be used for magic and spirituality. Read about Virgo here: Virgo Traits and Love Compatibility

Potted Roses

Potted Roses

Roses symbolize love, beauty, and devotion and if any one kind of rose represents Virgos, it’s potted roses simply because potted roses are the most difficult roses to grow successfully. Roses in general need care to ensure that they bloom beautifully and that includes keeping beetles and aphids away as well as pruning dead flowers so more roses can grow. This is a plant that works as hard as Virgos do at being the best it can be, but it is one that can’t do everything on its own. Virgos often consider themselves independent and self-sufficient, but like a potted rose, they can’t do everything all by themselves. If anybody has the work ethic and ambition to make a potted rose grow, it’s a Virgo.

They will research, experiment, and even speak with rose experts if needed to ensure their delicate potted rose thrives. A magical operation a Virgo can do with their potted rose is to keep a diligent journal and photographs of their potted rose and its progress. Pay extra close attention to how the plant behaves in winter and what steps you need to take to ensure the plant survives and blooms again starting in springtime. Notice the plant’s needs, and how it reacts when it doesn’t have those needs met. Then realize that you are like the rose. You need nutrition, the proper environment, and you also need rest. Tend to your own unique needs as diligently as you tend your potted rose.

Narcissus

Narcissus

Another of Virgo’s top zodiac flowers is the lovely narcissus, also known as the daffodil. Native to the Mediterranean, Africa, and parts of Europe, it blooms in early spring from bulbs and leave behind long green stems and leaves that absorb nutrients from the sun, and they store those nutrients in the bulbs so they can flower again the following year. There are thousands of different narcissus that have been cultivated and they have been around for close to 24 million years. They became very popular in the renaissance and by the 1800’s they became a big commercial crop. Although they are popular and are planted in gardens around the world, they grow wild in woodlands and meadows, and people especially love the fact that they are deer resistant.

The narcissus was named after a beautiful young man from Greek myths. Narcissus was a handsome hunter who rejected anybody who expressed attraction to him. One day, he was walking through the forest, and a lovely nymph named Echo saw him, and fell madly in love instantly. She followed behind, watching him, but he could tell he was being followed, so he called out “Who’s there?” but Echo just repeated “Who’s there?” She finally approached him, and tried to embrace him, but he asked her to go away. She died of a broken heart.

The goddess Nemesis was so angered by this, she vowed revenge. She lured Narcissus to a pool where he saw his own reflection and fell in love with himself. He was unable to leave the pool and gazed at his own reflection until he died. Where he died, the lovely narcissus bloomed. Some stories say another young man fell in love with him, and committed suicide because Narcissus spurned his affections. The narcissus represents beauty and vanity, and narcissistic personality disorder was named after Narcissus.

Like Narcissus, Virgos can be self-centered at times. They sometimes believe nobody can excel quite like them, and they can be overly critical of other people to the point of being counterproductive. Pride must be balanced with humility, and when Virgos find themselves forgetting to be humble, remembering the story of Narcissus can help. A meditation on what others contribute can be helpful. Sit in a quiet place with a vase of fresh narcissus flowers and relax. Then think of whoever it is that you are overly critical of. Think of three things they do that are of value and focus on those things when you interact with them instead of being critical. Read about Libra's flowers here: What is the Best Libra Flower?

Buttercup

The buttercup is a part of the ranunculus family of plants, and there are about 1,700 different species of these flowers. The common buttercup grows native in parts of Europe and Eurasia and has naturalized in North America. It is considered an invasive weed by some but is considered a wildflower by others although it is not exactly celebrated in New Zealand, where it is undesirable in livestock pastures. The flower is not considered edible, and can cause blisters in the mouth, blindness, as well as stomach problems for animals and digestive problems in humans. Despite this, some indigenous American Indian people have used it to treat things like headaches, abscesses, pain, and colds.

One children’s game entails picking a single buttercup and holding it underneath the chin. The belief is that if the yellow color of the buttercup reflects off your skin, that means you are in love. A Persian myth tells of a prince who fell madly in love with a nymph, but like Narcissus, she rejected his affection. He died of a broken heart and where he fell, the lovely buttercup grew. The buttercup symbolized youthfulness, the joys of childhood, and attraction. They are used in wedding bouquets and are given to people to express romantic interest.

Virgos are serious hard-working people, but they have wonderful senses of humor and do love to enjoy themselves. Anytime they catch themselves working too hard, and not taking the time to enjoy themselves, the buttercup’s magic can help them. Take a vase of buttercups and place it in your workspace to remind you to step away from work and enjoy life. Think of them as a boundary, keeping you away from working for a while. Your work will be waiting for you when you finish going someplace else and having fun. Remember statistics show that overworking yourself makes your productivity drop by as much as 68%. So, rest, have fun, and go back to work recharged. You can read more about the statistics here: 30 Productivity Statistics You Should Know In 2022 - SoftwareReport

Orchids

Orchids are one of the largest groups of flowers, and there are over 28,000 different species of orchids. There are four times as many orchids as there are different kinds of mammals and there are over 100,000 different cultivars and hybrids of orchids that have been developed. Orchids are native to parts of South America and Asia but they now grow on every continent but Antartica. In nature, they grow with their roots attached to shrubbery or trees, and while many kinds of orchids reproduce by being pollinated by insects or birds, some reproduce by simply growing new parts of themselves.

One kind of orchid is the pink lady’s slipper, or moccasin flower. An Ojibwe story tells of a winter that was especially bad for the people, and many fell ill and needed medicine. The men who would usually have made the journey to get medicine were too sick to go, so a woman left to see if she could succeed. She made it to the next village and got the medicine, but on the trip home, she grew weary, and cold, and finally could go no farther. She was rescued, and the medicine was taken home where the people were healed. It is said that where she stepped bloomed moccasin flowers as a reminder of her bravery and devotion.

Virgos are just as devoted as this fine lady was to whatever it is they believe in. They don’t have a problem making sacrifices to see to it they make things happen, and they care deeply about the people who they love. It may be difficult to get a lady’s slipper orchid to work with because they are endangered and don’t survive transplanting, but any kind of orchid can be included in magic for devotion. Give an orchid to somebody who you want to express your devotion to and go a step further and offer to take care of the orchid for them. This will allow you more opportunities to see one another, and it will make them more aware of your trustworthiness. Read about Scorpio’s flowers here: What is the Best Scorpio Flower?

Freesia

Native to parts of Africa, this popular flower can be found at grocery stores and florists because people love the beauty of the blossoms as well as the economical price you can take home a bouquet of them for. They are easy to grow from seed and grow well in pots indoors or outdoors. These popular flowers are not toxic to pets, and some species of them are used in salads, and in sweet syrups for desserts. They are primarily used in making perfumes, scented candles, and scented lotions. The blossoms come in every color of the rainbow, and they are a popular addition to wedding bouquets.

Freesias represent thoughtfulness, love, trust, lasting friendship, and purity, but each color of them has a more specific meaning. Multicolored freesias symbolize friendship while red ones symbolize passion and have some of the strongest scented flowers. Pink freesias are scented as strongly as red ones, and they symbolize the love of mothers. White freesias symbolize purity and are a popular flower used in weddings. Yellow freesias symbolize happiness and purple freesias represent loyalty. In Victorian times, giving a bouquet of freesias communicated that the giver had a secret to share, so they were a sign of trust.

Virgo values the people who they trust even though they don’t always express it. They build this trust slowly and form relationships for life. They value honesty and appreciate the people who they can trust to keep their secrets. A way a Virgo can use freesias in their magic is to thank the people who they trust and have long term friendships with. A surprise bouquet or potted freesia plant is a thoughtful way to express that you appreciate people, and you don’t even have to say a lot. Keep in mind that freesias grow best in warm planting zones 9 and 10, and don’t survive if temperatures drop below 37F. That is okay though, because they can be grown as houseplants in wintertime in colder regions.

Mint

Mint

Growing on every continent except for Antarctica, mint is a hardy plant that grows in the wild as well as many gardens and they tolerate dry as well as wet conditions and grow year-round. The plant repopulates itself underground by spreading its root system widely, and some people say it becomes invasive and won’t plant it directly in their garden, preferring to keep it in pots instead. It’s difficult to cultivate from seed, and it’s not unusual to think you have planted one variety of mint only to discover another has grown unexpectedly. Mint is used in cooking because of its strong flavor, but it can also be used ornamentally because the plant does flower, attracting pollinators. It can be harvested at any time, and it seems that whenever you trim some mint off to use in cooking, ten times more grows back in its place.

In ancient Greece, it represented hospitality, and they rubbed mint on their bodies in belief it increased strength. Mint was spread across dirt floors in parts of Europe to scent the room. It is used in aromatherapy to energize and sharpen the mind. It is also an insecticide, and it is used for protection. Mint is used to alleviate some digestive symptoms, and it is a flavoring for foods. Magically it draws luck and opens communication. It is used to quell fears and mint helps to strengthen the memory. It is believed the goddess Venus wove mint into crowns she wore, and it is an aphrodisiac.

Virgo is one of the hardest working signs in the zodiac, and mint can help them with energy and mental clarity. When you feel tired or mentally foggy, drinking some mint tea or rubbing some fresh mint leaves between your fingers to release the smell can help to energize you and clear your mind. Since they ward off insects, they can help to ward off annoying people as well. Plant mint on your property to ward off all unwanted energies and place a potted mint plant on your doorstep to protect all who reside within. When your nerves flare up, chop some mint up and throw it into a salad or stew to reassure you and rub mint on your skin to attract lovers.

Aster

Asters are named after the virginal Greek goddess Astraea. She was said to be the daughter of Titans, a mighty family of gods and she was the goddess of precision, purity, and justice. She loved humanity possibly more than any other god or goddess and she proved this by staying on earth the longest. The gods took great pride in humanity during a golden age, but left earth in disgust when human beings became obsessed with war and wealth. Only Astraea remained, but one day, even she fled and ascended into the sky as the constellation Virgo. It is said that when she shed tears, they created the lovely aster blossom.

Asters symbolize faith, love, purity, and nobility. They bloom in the fall and provide necessary pollen for birds, bees, and butterflies after many summer flowers have stopped blooming, and thus symbolize faith. Medicinally they have been used to ease headaches and hangovers and they are believed to help ease asthma and breathing issues that come with colds. The ancient Greeks believed the aster would ward off malevolent spirits and snakes and planted it near their homes. In ancient Rome, the flowers were sacred to the gods, and they used it on religious altars. They also believed that burning aster leaves would ward off evil spirits and snakes.

Virgos are very much like the goddess Astraea. They are reliable and faithful to the things they believe in, and they are focused on their goals like she was focused on being supportive of human beings. However, like Astraea, there comes a time that even a faithful, focused Virgo will get fed up with things and think of leaving. Divination with aster blossoms can be a good way to find out if it is time to roll up your sleeves and work harder or leave. A simple way to do this is to snip off ten aster blossoms and use them for a “yes or no” psychic reading. Ask ten different questions about your situation and toss an aster blossom into the air after asking each question. If it lands right side up, the answer is “yes”. If the blossom lands upside down, the answer is “no.”

Gladiolus

Native to the Mediterranean, parts of Africa, Asia, and Europe, the lovely gladiolus is also called the sword lily because of its shape. They are members of the iris family and have always been well loved due to their beauty. In the 1800’s, the English propagated them widely, and developed new cultivars with a great variety of different colored blossoms. There are over 250 different cultivars of gladiolus and they come in every color of the rainbow as well as white and black. They are a fast-growing plant, and will sprout within days of being planted in spring and will produce flowers until frost sets in.

According to Greek myths, the gladiolus sprouted from tragedy. The myth tells a story about a man who used to steal wood to make fires from a grove that was sacred to the goddess Demeter. He was poor and tried to sell his daughter, but his daughter was able to escape this terrible fate. The goddess found the distraught girl and turned her into a beautiful gladiolus. Gladiolus are used in protective spells since they resemble swords. The base of their stems have been used to help extract splinters and have been made into a powder to help with colic. Some parts of the plant are poisonous if eaten, however, so use it with care.

Virgos can use gladiolus in protection magic. Planting them around the house will help keep negativity away, and if they can’t be grown, a vase full of fresh gladiolus flowers will be just as protective. Gladiolus bulbs can be bought and forced indoors in glass containers so you can have them for magical protection. Buy the proper sized clear glass container so the bulbs and roots will benefit from light. Then stack some clear glass stones into the vase, and place the gladiolus bulb, root side down on top of the stones. Add just enough water to touch the bottom of the bulb and place the vase in a sunny window. Add water as needed, and within a few weeks, the first leaves will sprout from your gladiolus and provide protection.

Marjoram

Native to parts of the Mediterranean, Asia, and the Middle East, marjoram made it to Europe by the Middle Ages, and is quite popular in cooking and gardens. It is an herb that flowers and is grown as a seasoning for food although it is considered a magical plant. The way it came about was by the work of the goddess Aphrodite. Amaracus was a royal perfumer on the island of Cyprus, and one day he fell, spilling his perfumes everywhere. He was changed into the marjoram plant after this.

Marjoram is sacred to the goddess Aphrodite, and it is believed to be an aphrodisiac. It was used to help heal snake bites and was added to bridal wreaths in ancient Greece. It can be used as an ingredient in attraction magic, or to cast love spells. It is used as an antiseptic and a room freshener. Marjoram can help with making peace during reconciliation and it is used to draw wealth. It is used to ease grief, banish negativity, and is used in protective magic.

Virgos are kind enough to be honest with people, and a lot of people appreciate them being respectful enough to tell the truth. Not everybody likes how plain-spoken Virgos can be, however, and marjoram can be used to help soften the tone of stressful conversations. Place a sprig of marjoram in your pocket before you head to meetings where you have to tell people news they might not like or serve them a pot of hot marjoram tea to help ease tension. Some dried marjoram in your wallet or pockets can help draw money to you and a bundle of dried marjoram over your bed when you sleep can help protect you.

Silk Flowers

Let’s face it. Some Virgos are just going to be too busy working to tend to flowers, and some Virgos are so fastidious about cleaning, they are not going to want to worry about dead flowers. Silk flowers might be considered artificial flowers, but they are easy to use, easy to clean, and you won’t have to worry about nurturing them. That is one less thing for a busy Virgo to worry about, and sometimes, less work is better. A magical operation with silk flowers is to bless them with the magic you want them to manifest, and then place them in places where that magic can work itself. Say a prayer over the flowers, and then say, “It is my will that you will radiate the magic of my choosing” and then say what magic you want that to be. Your silk flowers will magically do your bidding effortlessly.

A Virgoes greatest magical asset is their ability to roll up their sleeves and put in as much hard work as they need to accomplish things, but even people whose magic is that powerful can benefit from their own zodiac flowers. Use the lessons you learn tending your potted rose plant for self-care and give an orchid as a gift to somebody who you want to demonstrate your devotion to. Have some mint tea to awaken your mind and keep gladiolus in the house for protection. Your zodiac flowers will make your magic even more powerful.
