The Minor Arcana on Love

The Minor Arcana on Love

By Lady Saoirse

TL;DR- When you're looking for advice on love, Tarot readings give a treasure trove of wisdom many turn to. Both the Major and Minor Arcana cards offer their own wisdom, and join us today as we explore various cards of the Minor Arcana and what those cards have to say about love.

When you seek guidance, Tarot is a great place to turn. You can do your own readings if you are aware of what the cards' meanings are, and you can certainly do a love reading with a whole deck of the cards, but you can also remove the Major Arcana cards and just focus on what the Minor Arcana has to say anytime you want to.  Each suit has its own set of meanings, and answers that come along with it. Read on to discover what some of the cards in the Houses of Swords, Cups, Pentacles, and Wands can tell you in a love reading.

Love Readings

12.0pt;margin-left:0in">Readings about love can always be done with the Minor Arcana. Each Suit, or House in the Minor Arcana has its own set meanings, and in regard to love questions, they will have different answers to love questions. In general, Swords have to do with conflict and the balance between our thoughts and actions. Cups deal more with feelings and emotions, and what that has to do with relationships. Pentacles deal with material things including career, wealth, and money while Wands have to do with issues related to actions. All of the Houses can give great insight to love and can be used together to give a very in-depth love reading. Let's explore what some of the cards in each of those Suits can be saying in a love reading.

The Suit of Swords

The House of Swords can look scary with the sharp-edged blades portrayed in the images, but don't be afraid. Swords can point out what is going wrong, and that can put you on the path to find out what to do to make things right again. Two of Swords

The Two of Swords love card has to do with being in the process of making decisions. Whether this card is right side up or reversed, make sure you allow yourself to take all the time you need to make the right decision. Most especially on matters of love, hasty decisions may be regretted, and it's never worth it to make a decision you have not thought through well. Don't let anybody drag a snap decision out of you and allow yourself all the time you need to consider all aspects of the situation before committing to one option or another.

Three of Swords

The Three of Swords love card shows a heart pierced by three swords, and this can indicate the ending of a relationship or that your heart is still pierced from past heartbreak. Either way, your main priority needs to be your own healing instead of accommodating other people. Pull those painful swords, whatever they represent, out of your heart, then take all the time you need to allow the wounds to heal before you do anything else.

Six of Swords

The Six of Swords card shows a journey, and in a love reading, it can be telling you that you are ready to embark on a new love relationship! It has to do with healing and moving away from bad things. In love readings, this can mean moving away from heartbreak into a new future with new lovers. The Six of Swords reversed meaning can be telling you that you are still hurting, and you are not ready to put the pain from the past behind you and let in new lovers. You don't have to get into another relationship until you feel it is time, and your time being single, and healing can last for as long as you want it to.

Seven of Swords

The Seven of Swords as feeling overwhelmed with things can point out there are burdens in a relationship that you feel are out of control. It can also point to betrayal or secrets, or that you feel so frustrated in your romance, that you are wondering if you are better off being single. Sometimes, this is a temporary feeling, but if it has been nagging at you for a long time, don't feel bad if you break things off because it is best for you. Some people are happier single, and even if you are not planning to be single for life, breaking off from a bad relationship makes you feel less lonely than being in a relationship that is unfulfilling.

Page of Swords

The Page of Swords points out there are challenges in love, and to grow, you have to accept and face those challenges. Ignoring issues won't make them go away, but it will make them worse! The Page of Swords reversed love reading is a worse side of this issue. Your lover may be playing games with you or cheating. You are put on notice not to commit until you get to the bottom of what is going on, and perhaps not to commit to this individual at all.

Queen of Swords

The Queen of Swords has to do with making decisions using your head instead of making emotional decisions. Right side up, you are being advised to look at all options and think things through completely before deciding anything. The Queen of Swords reversed love reading has to do with toxic mindsets and actions. If you recently broke up, you are being warned not to stew in bitterness and if you are in a relationship, be aware that your partner may be going out of their way to hurt you on purpose. Either way, you are being advised to break the spell these toxic things have over you.

The Suit of Cups

12.0pt;margin-left:0in">The House of Cups deal with all matters of the heart, even those not based on romance, including family relations as well as friendships. Many traditional images on Tarot cards in the House of Cups show people either holding cups or Cups being filled. Reversed, of course this can symbolize a falling away of all the good things the cards mean right side up. Seven of Cups

The Seven of Cups is another card that deals with decisions, but unlike the Two of Swords, this card denotes more things to decide between, and how crucial it is not to let emotions cloud judgment. There is a lot to take into consideration, and not everything is easy to see without investigation. Some details may be hidden, and you are being advised to follow your gut instincts instead of having knee jerk reactions to things here. Your intuition should be listened to because it will not fail you.

Ten of Cups

The Ten of Cups card in a love reading is a fantastic card to pull. If it is in regard to an existing relationship, the card is saying this is a great partnership and you will be very happy together. If you are single and looking for love, this card tells you that a happy relationship is coming. This is a kind of “Happily ever after card” telling you that if it is not happening right now, very fulfilling love is on the way, and it will make you feel that you and your love have everything together.

Knight of Cups

The Knight of Cups has to do with opportunities and may manifest as being asked on a date, or meeting somebody who you will enjoy spending time with. In a love reading, you can take heart that the potential for a good romance is at hand, and you will be feeling very positive about the potential for long term romantic success. Reversed, be aware that whoever approaches is not being honest. They might be fake or have ulterior motives and are not a good love interest. Look elsewhere.

Queen of Cups

The Queen of Cups love card brings in the energy of compassion, empathy, and excellent listening skills. Loving kindness and sensitivity are what this card is indicating. If you are asking about the personality traits of somebody who you are attracted to, this card is telling you they are a warm, gentle hearted individual, and if you are asking what wins their heart, the cards are telling you they want a lover who listens compassionately and has a gentle spirit. If you are asking what to do in a conflict with a lover, the cards are telling you to listen without judgment and put your lover's needs before anything else.

King of Cups

The King of Cups card indicates wisdom, devotion, and diplomacy. If this is about an individual, the card is indicating that this person has let other people have authority in the past, and now they are in charge themselves, but they make sure everything is fair for all parties involved. In love, this person will be considerate of others, but also makes sure their own needs are met. The card may be telling you to balance your own needs fairly with the needs and desires of those who you love.

The Suit of Pentacles

The House of Pentacles is also called the House of Coins in some decks, and this Suit deals with wealth, acquisition, and earning things from our hard work. In love it can deal with how we draw the love and relationships we want to us. To read more about Pentacles, see here: The Suit of Pentacles in Tarot | Spiritual Blossom

Four of Pentacles

The Four of Pentacles has to do with hoarding. If you are asking about your lover, this can be telling you they take love, but withhold it when it is time to reciprocate, and if you are asking what you need to do differently in relationships, the card is telling you to give of yourself emotionally to your loved ones. Reversed, it can be indicating that generosity is opening up, and you can enjoy giving and receiving plenty of love.

Six of Pentacles

The Six of Pentacles card in a love reading indicates sharing, and generosity in relationships, and that plenty of emotional support is being given. This is a mutually beneficial love pairing, and both of you balance giving and taking well. Reversed, this is out of balance, with one doing all or most of the giving, and the other just taking and taking and doing that taking selfishly. The goal in relationships is to reciprocate fairly so you both feel loved and emotionally fulfilled, but this card reversed indicates that is not happening.

Ten of Pentacles

The Ten of Pentacles is about family wealth, and in a love reading, it indicates your family and loved ones are basically your wealth. Stability and a good family life is a powerful foundation you have been blessed with and the good things they taught you guide you in how you connect with lovers and friends. If you are asking about marriage or if it is time to have children, the Ten of Pentacles in a reading indicates that the time is right, and to go for it!

Page of Pentacles

The Page of Pentacles card indicates a new opportunity in love, but it is one you have to focus on and work at. All relationships require effort. You and your new lover may be working opposite shifts, and you have to plan diligently to spend time together. Whatever you have to do to make love happen is every bit worth it, and loyalty, dedication, and fidelity will ensure that you succeed in making your relationship a good one.

Queen of Pentacles

The Queen of Pentacles is a loyal, smart homemaker, and she draws in the people who she loves to her and makes them the center of her life. Good natured generosity and the desire to protect those you love are good ways to describe how you express your love, and while you seek to spoil the people you love by lavishing all the love you can on them, you are also realistic. When this card is pulled in a reading about a relationship, it can indicate this is true love and this is a stable relationship based on trust and loyalty.

King of Pentacles

The King of Pentacles indicates tradition, prosperity, and being family focused. If you are asking if marriage is a good idea and this card appears right side up, that's a resounding yes. If it comes up reversed in a love reading, it can indicate that you or your partner is being domineering and that controlling somebody is no way to show love. There may also be unfaithfulness or possessiveness, neither of which are healthy.

The Suit of Wands

Wands have to do with actions and when they come up in a love reading, they are instructing you to commit to do something. They are also called Clubs in some decks, and they may look like a weapon, but can more accurately be thought of as tools to create the change we want. Two of Wands

The Two of Wands Tarot card has to do with options, planning, and moving forward with things. In a love reading, this card can be telling you to be mindful of what you are looking for in a relationship, and to only date people who fit in with your future plans. So, if you want a marriage and kids, don't date people who flat out tell you they don't want those things. This card tells you to have faith in your ability to succeed at having the kind of love in your life you want and to have those things be your priority.

Three of Wands

The Three of Wands Tarot card tells you to branch out, keeping your options open. So, if this comes up in a love reading where you ask about your current partner, this card is telling you there will be other lovers and this individual is not “the one.” You don't have to stay stuck in a dead-end relationship, because there are plenty of other lovers for you who will make you much happier than “Mr. or Miss Right Now” is.

Six of Wands

The Six of Wands Tarot card meaning in a love reading is that your poise, confidence, and self-respect will be what draws exactly the kind of lover you want to you. Just keep being your best self, because the right person is going to notice and find you irresistible. This card indicates accomplishment, success, and achieving all your goals. So, whatever it is that is your goal romantically will come to fruition because you have what it takes to achieve it.

Seven of Wands

The Seven of Wands Tarot card has to do with standing your ground and that by doing so, you will come out on top. Victory is guaranteed, so if you and your lover are struggling in your relationship but you both want things to work out, this card is telling you to dig in your heels and keep trying because your relationship is worth fighting for! Reversed, of course, there are just too many problems, and you are fighting a losing battle. Let it go.

Eight of Wands

The Eight of Wands Tarot card meaning is about swift movement, rapid change, and meaningful progress. The way this happens is with communication. So, in a love reading, what this means is that the way to make love happen is by communicating with the one you are drawn to. If this comes up in a reading asking about getting back with an ex, the card is telling you that your best bet is to reach out to them to get back together. Communicate your feelings, needs, and boundaries clearly to lovers, and your relationships will be their strongest.

Nine of Wands

The Nine of Wands tarot card meaning is one of delays and obstacles, and at this time all you can do is be patient and wait. Perhaps you are single and don't want to be, but the holdup is simply that the person you are meant to be with has not arrived yet. This card is telling you to keep in mind what kind of a love relationship you really want and to be content to wait for that instead of settling for something else just so you won't have to be single. Good love is every bit worth the wait!

Page of Wands

The Page of Wands Tarot card has to do with enthusiasm, fun, new ideas and taking a leap of faith. So, if you draw this card in a love reading, it's telling you to “Go for it!” with a new person, and just enjoy one another. Love doesn't have to be all about gazing meaningfully into one another's eyes and weeping together. It's all about enjoying life and doing that with the right people. So go out and enjoy your lover!

Queen of Wands

The Queen of Wands Tarot card meaning indicates a strong bond between lovers. Keeping your relationship strong and having a harmonious life together is what the card counsels to strive for. One way to do this is to be flexible and not “my way or the highway” with your partner. There will come a time you need to take charge in your relationship but do it in a way that shows you and your partner are a team, instead of one of you bossing the other around.

King of Wands

The King of Wands Tarot card meaning in a love reading is telling you the perfect way to draw love to yourself. You will attract people by being in charge and using your natural charms to encourage interest. You are seen as naturally attractive, and you don't need to change or improve to get the attention of prospective lovers. Such an individual will also be drawn to you, and you will enjoy quite a passionate relationship!
