What is Luck?

Luck is good things and success often brought into your life by chance. Some people would say if they were born into a rich family, they're lucky. Other people would say if they barely avoided an automobile accident, they're lucky. Some people would say if they met their soul mate young, they're lucky. Other people would say if they don't have any health problems, they're lucky. Most often people say they're lucky when good things happen to them and they don't feel like they had anything to do with it.
But does luck really exist? How much of what happens in our lives has nothing to do with our decisions. Did we get the job through pure luck or did we work hard, have a great resume, and interview well? Did we luck into a great partner, or are we a great partner so we attracted somebody good? Did we win because of preparation, or did some higher power hand that to us? Do we luck into persuading people to do things we want them to or did we learn how to be persuasive? Are We Born Lucky?
It is said that Geminis and Sagittarians are especially lucky Zodiac signs, but is that true? They tend to be go-getters who are great at talking to people, so they might build their own success by their actions as opposed to it being handed to them. Some people say that it is luckier or less lucky to be born during certain days of the year and during certain phases of the moon, but we don't have any proof of that. Some people say that you're lucky if you're born into a rich family, but other people say that we choose what family we're born into before we reincarnate. Which is true?
Some people would say that we're born more fortunate, and that means we have a better chance of success. Then again, some of the biggest success stories had a difficult start early in life. American musician Elvis Presley was born into a poor family, but he became a rich and famous success. Born in 1831 in a Log Cabin, 20th American President James A Garfield had to work odd jobs to fund his own education, but he became President anyway. Being born into a wealthy or powerful family is not necessary to create a successful life. We can create our own luck. Learning to be peaceful in the midst of chaos helps with creating your own luck. Good Luck vs Bad Luck
Things like lottery winnings, being in the right place at the right time, or influential people automatically liking you are considered lucky things. Bad luck is exactly the opposite. Whenever something bad happens, people say that it's bad luck. Having your car randomly stolen, having your job outsourced and becoming unemployed, or getting an important package lost in the mail are considered things that are bad luck.
Some people will say that they have had a lifetime of bad luck. However, everybody has bad things happen to them in life. That doesn't mean that their life is nothing but bad luck. When something bad happens, or multiple bad things happen, it's not a sign that the universe is sending you bad things for some unknown reason. It just means that you're dealing with the same things that a lot of other people are dealing with and you have to handle them. Some people say that being cheated on is bad luck. Lucky Symbols
Certain things in nature are considered to be naturally lucky. Iron horseshoes are considered a symbol of luck. People’s personal symbols of your faith are considered protective and therefore lucky. Certain colors are considered luckier than others. Seeing a cat is also considered lucky. Oak trees are considered to be one of the luckiest trees on earth.
Horseshoes
Iron horseshoes are natural deterrents of all things bad. A lot of people will place an iron horseshoe above the entryway to their house or even bury it underneath their doorway when they're building the house to protect it. Anything that is seen as protective is thought of as good luck, because only good things can enter the home. Some people believe that malevolent beings called trolls are deterred by iron, and people will shape their iron into something called a Troll Iron to ward them off instead of just putting iron above the doorway or underneath the doorstep of a new home.
Symbols of Faith
Each of the religions has their own symbols of faith. All symbols of faith are believed to be protective, a reminder of the Creator, and therefore lucky. That's part of the reason why a lot of people wear their symbols of faith. Whether it be a Star of David, a Crucifix, or even a Pentacle, if wearing the symbol of your faith makes you feel protected and lucky, then by all means, wear it. Speaking of faith, is it a good idea to be in an interfaith relationship? Find out here: Is a Mixed Faith Marriage a Good Idea?
Colors
For some people, the color white symbolizes purity and is therefore the luckiest color. For other people, red represents the life force of vitality in the universe and is the luckiest color. In parts of North America a shade of blue called Haint blue is believed to deter evil spirits and the porch or entryway of the house is painted in that color for protection. For some people, green is believed to be a lucky color because it is the color of money and it is believed that green attracts wealth and is therefore lucky. Some people simply say that their favorite color is lucky.
Cats

Cats are good luck for multiple reasons, especially if one crosses your path. Cats are good luck because they have always been protective creatures. They have always protected households against small creatures like mice who carry disease and would eat the family’s food on farms. Cats were given as wedding gifts to new brides and the Old Norse world because the house just wasn't a home without a cat. It is also said that cats protect the house against malevolent spirits. Oak Trees
Oak trees represent long life, because some of them live up to 1000 years or more and that's considered very lucky. They're also a very strong plant, one of which can survive lightning strikes and it's considered very lucky to have such a tree planted on your property. Some people believe that knocking on an oak tree will bring good luck, Oak leaves will attract money, and burning oak wood will bring good fortune.
How to Ward Off Bad Luck
Warding off bad luck can just be a matter of your attitude. If you believe that good things are possible, then you're open to good possibilities, and therefore more good luck. If you believe that nothing but bad things happen to you, you will be completely unaware of all the good luck you have. Chase away your negative thoughts with a simple affirmation. Anytime you think that nothing good is happening, think of three good things that have happened in your life in the past twelve months. You will ward off the negative thinking immediately.
How to Make Your Own Luck
Creating your own luck isn't just about wearing the right color, hanging a horseshoe above your door, or making sure you see cats all the time. It takes a little bit more work. Things like being optimistic, pursuing your passions, and taking the right risks will create more positive outcomes for you than anything else. Read on for ten simple ways to create your own luck that you can do any day.
Be Optimistic
Your attitude begins everything. If you believe the good things are possible, you will look for the good in life. If you believe nothing good can happen, the good can be right in front of you and you won't get to experience it. Keeping an optimistic attitude will open your awareness to the good things, and that's what you need to be focusing on anyways. The power of belief cannot be stressed enough. Learn more about why your beliefs matter more than you may think: What Happens When You Believe? Why it Matters
Be Proactive
Being proactive means working in your own behalf. That also means being on the lookout for opportunities and then seizing them when they present themselves. This will create more success from opportunities than most things.
Avoid Negative People
People with bad attitudes drag you down. Staying away from them will help you to maintain that optimistic attitude that you need. There may be certain negative family members, coworkers, or neighbors who you have to be around sometimes. Just don't let them influence you and tell you what to think. While you avoid negative people, stick around optimistic people who are go getters. Negative thoughts can be reworked into good things though. Find out how here: Creating Positive Things from Negative Thoughts
Be Self-ISH
If you want to create your own luck, you have to think about yourself. It might seem like a bad thing to do, but it is absolutely necessary. You have to think about your health, you have to think about your limits, and you have to think about what things you want in life. If you will be mindful of these things, you will create more luck for yourself than if you don't.
Pursue Your Passions

One thing that will help you feel very lucky is if you're participating in the things that make you happy, so pursue your passions. Participate in hobbies you love, study things you're interested in, and do the things you like. While you're at it, involve the people you love in those things and just enjoy life together. You will feel very lucky indeed. You can draw a lover to go on adventures in life with if you don’t have one yet with aphrodisiacs. Find out how here: How to Use an Aphrodisiac for Love and Attraction
Learn to Say No
Respecting your own boundaries means saying no to the things that you can't tolerate. Staying out of bars with friends when you're a recovering alcoholic, going to bed on time instead of going to that late concert, and eating only what makes you healthy, even though your friends want you to break your diet entail saying no. If you will say no to the things that you do not need in your life, it will leave more room for saying yes to the right things.
Take Risks
Opportunities are there for us to take. If you don't take those opportunities, you won't gain anything. Sometimes you have to take a leap of faith to accomplish something that you want to or to experience something that you've always dreamed about. With careful planning and a little help sometimes, a calculated risk will make you very fortunate indeed. So take chances. Find out how to push your personal boundaries to take those worthwhile risks here: Testing Your Boundary Level- Taking Your Chances
Learn
You were born whole, intelligent, and very powerful. You just weren't born knowing everything. The more you learn, the more you know. The more you know, the more capable you are. The more you can accomplish, the more luck you build for yourself. So, learn all you can.
Keep Trying
It can be very difficult to pick yourself up after you've fallen down, seemingly failing. Do it anyway. Very few people accomplish great things on their first try, and you might not either. Anything worth trying is worth trying until you find out how to do it, so don't give up. Good outcomes are worth trying for over and over again. Even if you are rejected, keep trying. Find out how to handle rejection here: Dealing with Being Rejected
Be Thankful
An attitude of gratitude will help you to focus on the good things that you have in life. If all you focus on is what you don't have, that's all you will notice. Count your blessings, no matter how small they are. You will be surprised how much luckier you will feel if you do.
Some people believe we have to be born lucky. While it's possible to be born with some good things in place already, even if they're not, that doesn't mean you can't put them in place yourself. Warding off bad luck immediately happens when you change your attitude and focus on good things that you have in life. Creating your own luck starts with things like a positive attitude, being proactive in your own life, and then being grateful for all that you have. We all have the potential to create our own good luck. What are you waiting for? Start today.
