What is AI?

What is AI?

AI, also called Artificial Intelligence is the ability of computerized things to perform human tasks. It’s a division of computer science that creates computerized programs that analyze data and make decisions. It then performs tasks based on those decisions. Some online games people play are set up with an AI opponent. AI programs like Chat GPT can quickly answer a question online that would take a human being a lot longer to research. Some programs online will immediately convert measurements to halve cooking ingredients, or automatically translate sentences into other languages. Again, it would take a human being a lot longer to research to translate these things.

Some things are AI that we don’t even think of. You are using AI and might not even realize it. Finance, for example, utilizes AI today. PayPal has mechanisms set in place to detect fraud and a lot of bank branches do too. Self-scan cash registers have weights to detect if someone has stuffed a box full of extra merchandise to deter shoplifting. Bank ATMs are AI. Medical enhancements are even possible with AI. The author, herself, has an AI enhanced cochlear implant! AI helps with learning in multiple ways but one thing you have to learn on your own is life’s lessons. How Old is Artificial Intelligence?

Conventional wisdom tells us that AI started in the 1950s with the development of early computers. It is said that the entire field of artificial intelligence research started at Dartmouth College in 1956. Researchers and students alike worked together to have computers learning strategies in games like checkers, solving algebra problems, and speaking English. In both the United States and the UK, artificial intelligence laboratories were set up throughout the 1950s and 60s. It was believed that within 20 years, computers would be able to do whatever jobs that humans could do. They still don’t to this day.

Some people would say that robotic machines, or machines in general are a form of artificial intelligence, but there's a difference. Artificial intelligence has some type of computer generated operations which helps it to make decisions on its own. Your typical machine can't do that. An example of a machine would be an automobile. An example of artificial intelligence would be a self-driving automobile. People have used machines as tools for many centuries, but artificial intelligence isn't nearly that old. One very old magic word is Abracadabra, and you can learn how to use it for healing here: Abra Ca Dabra - Its Meaning and Magic

Benefits of AI Technology

Artificial intelligence technology has a lot of benefits. For one thing, It can oftentimes do things faster than a person can. It is a huge help in research, and it increases accuracy drastically.

Increased Speed

One of the things that artificial intelligence allows is for more speed. Take, for example, the grocery store line. One cashier can oversee the operations of multiple cash registers that customers use to scan their own groceries. If you were waiting in a regular line with the cashier, your wait in the store would be a lot longer. Using artificial intelligence to pay a bill by telephone takes a fraction of the time that it would take you to talk to a representative, or write a check and send it in the mail to pay. A lot of people love this because it's convenient and saves time.

Research Aids

Research Aids

Artificial intelligence is able to do research very quickly. An example of this is to do a Google search on any topic and within seconds, various articles and other resources pop up. How long would it take you to go to the library to do all that research on your own? Just on the Internet, artificial intelligence has access to countless bits of information on the World Wide Web that you wouldn't even think to look for. Also instead of making trips to libraries or owning your own never ending library, the information is kept on the Internet where you can access it without cluttering your space or physically getting your hands on it. One form of intelligence is book learning, but emotional intelligence is just as important. Learn all about emotional intelligence here: How High is Your Emotional Intellect?

Improved Accuracy

Artificial intelligence has allowed automation to make decisions based on data. Human beings make mistakes unintentionally. Think of the last time you were exhausted at work and how many more mistakes that you made. Artificial intelligence originates from a machine and it doesn't get tired. It has all of the information that it needs programmed within its systems, and it can automatically access that on its own. It is automated and handles boring, repetitive tasks and frees up people to do things that computers can't do. All of these things improve the accuracy of getting the job done with the help of AI.

Drawbacks of AI Tech

Like anything, artificial intelligence isn't without its imperfections. For one thing, the AI algorithms lock a lot of job seekers out of finding a job. Speaking of jobs, artificial intelligence has replaced human beings in some ways and people have lost their jobs because of it. Then, artificial intelligence sometimes malfunctions and causes problems.

Jobhunting

Ask anyone who's searching for a job that applies for things online and they will tell you it's not easy sometimes. You can put in hundreds of job applications online, including downloading your resume and then hand entering every last bit of information that it contains. This will be 30 minutes to an hour of your time that you will never get back. It has been proven that there are artificial intelligence programs in place that will phase out worthy applications and resumes and a human being will never even get to read it. Furthermore, a lot of employers are putting out “ghost jobs”, or jobs that don’t exist just to see how many people apply! This wasn't happening before artificial intelligence was used to sort job applicants. Read the report about statistics first hand here: Job seekers aren’t imagining things: the number of candidates ghosted by employers just reached a three-year high thanks to AI

Jobs Are Phased Out

The author remembers the 1980s when machines started replacing people who had telephone jobs. Employers discovered that they could use machines to talk to customers, help with bill pay, and handle business. People became extremely frustrated with this, but artificial phone programs were here to stay. Companies started laying off phone operators without apologizing. It also became possible for companies to outsource jobs to other countries. So you can be living in the UK and talk to someone in America about a business that's in the UK. In this way, artificial intelligence took jobs.

Malfunctioning

An article in LinkedIn acknowledges that AI is not perfect. Errors have been noted even in AI. However, measurements have shown that error rates dropped drastically with AI as opposed to human error rates. For example, AI outperforms people by 30% in medical imaging, but it lacks the human touch to explain things, so it's not perfect. Self driving cars have more minor accidents, but they're 10 times less likely to cause a fatal car accident than a human driver. It might malfunction less than humans, but it still malfunctions and human beings are the ones who have to fix the problems. Is AI Dangerous?

If your job is phased out to a machine, you might think it's highly dangerous. If you get hit by a self-driving car, you might feel like that's dangerous. Artificial intelligence has been used to create fake accounts on social media where people scam people out of money. It creates a bias on job engines, and human beings who are more than qualified for the job can't get it because the artificial intelligence algorithm won't let them through. Over reliance on computers is blamed for low attention spans, low social skills, and a drop in IQ.

Some people believe that artificial intelligence goes beyond this, though. They believe that the machines and computers created to do artificial intelligence will take on a superhuman life, rise above humanity, and completely rule us. There is no proof that this is going to happen. Films like The Terminator show such a dystopian reality for a science fiction future, but there has not been an instance of a machine that could be not disengaged by a human being. So, will AI keep you out of a job that you qualify for? It just might. Will machines rise up and take on lives of their own and destroy humanity? Probably not. So how dangerous is AI? One thing that can be dangerous is a severe storm and you can read all about those here: The Spiritual Meaning of a Severe Storm

The safety statistics of self-driving cars causing more minor car accidents shows improved safety. Your bank can detect fraud faster than a person can if they have artificial intelligence on their computers, so that increases safety also. If you get your research done faster at the library because of artificial intelligence and get home before the storm hits, you're still safer. The so-called dangers of AI are all about how it's supposedly replacing human beings, but it hasn’t.

What’s Really Behind AI?

What’s Really Behind AI?

What is the purpose of artificial intelligence to begin with? Artificial intelligence is just a new form of technology. Technology is designed to make people's lives easier. The cochlear implants make it easier for people to hear and therefore communicate. Faster research means faster results, and it also gives you access to more information than you would have if there wasn't any artificial intelligence. Self-driving cars help companies get products to people safer and faster. You will feel safest in the company of positive people. There was a time when the wheel was invented to help people transport things more easily. There was a time when the cotton gin was invented to help people process raw cotton more quickly. There was a time when banks just started to have ATM's so that after hours banking could be done. Artificial intelligence is supposed to make things happen more quickly, more accurately, and at less limited time. That ATM is 24 hours. What's behind AI is other human beings that want to make things easier for humanity in general. These things are used because people want that help.

Why AI Won’t Replace Everything

Like the horse and carriage was replaced with the automobile, AI technology has replaced some technology which is now obsolete. Someday, AI will be replaced with other technology. Artificial intelligence will not replace human beings. Human beings are the ones that build machines to begin with, and we can unbuild them any time they create a problem. Human beings need each other, and a machine cannot replace that. Besides, nobody wants a robot apocalypse that takes over the world.

Humans Build Machines

Humans build machines and program computers that utilize artificial intelligence. There will always be jobs doing that. There are less cashiers in stores because there are more self-scan cash registers, but a person operates that and a person has to service it and build it to begin with. When those machines malfunction, a person fixes it. No machine has completely replaced a human being who builds machines and that’s one boundary that hasn’t been crossed. Learn about setting boundaries here; How to Set a Relationship Boundary

The Human Touch

People need each other. A machine cannot give you a hug. A machine cannot tell you it loves you and reassure you when you're having a bad day. A machine can dispense pills, help with dispensing food, or just vend a bar of chocolate for some emotional support. It's not the same as talking to your best friend, kissing your sweetheart, or drying someone's tears. Nothing will ever replace the human need for other human beings.

Nobody Wants That

Does anybody want machines to take over and enslave the entire human race? Some people might think it sounds like an interesting topic for a comic book, television show, or film, but nobody wants to be ruled over by machines. Since human beings are the ones who build and program machines, machines aren't going to be capable of doing a thing like that.

Some people are terrified by AI. We use it when we drive cars with sensors that detect things so that the garage doesn't have to, and we use it for things like cochlear implants. AI isn't perfect, and it does malfunction, but it helps reduce error and speed things up, making life easier. It can never replace the human touch, and machines will always require people to build them. Artificial intelligence is not going to destroy the world, but like any technology, it changes the world in good ways.
