What is Poison?
Poison is any substance that will interfere with your normal bodily functions if you absorb it or swallow it. You can also inhale poisonous substances. Poisons can cause illness, injury, or even death. Poison is different from venom because venom is typically shot into your body by some type of animal sting or bite. Poison is something that you inhale, ingest, or absorb through your skin. Both venom or poison can injure, sicken, or kill you.
Some people think of poison as something that was deliberately engineered to poison. However, more things than just that can poison you. Naturally occurring plants, prescription medications, industrial pollutants, and yes, even food can poison you. Some things are safe for the body in small amounts, but in much larger amounts, they can sicken or even kill you and become poison. Some poisons are fast acting, but some act slowly after you've been exposed to them for long periods of time. Speaking of venom from things that bite- you might have a venomous friend or “pet rattlesnake”. Read here to find out if you do: Keeping Backstabbers Close- “Pet Rattlesnakes”
What Does Food Do to the Body?

Food is supposed to provide nutrients and energy that we use for daily bodily functions, growth, and healing. Things like fats, carbohydrates, proteins, and vitamins are in food and absorbed by our body for the energy that we need. All parts of our body use the nutrition from the food that we eat. Depending on what we eat, our bodies will function differently. For example, If you don't get enough fiber in your diet, it will cause problems with your digestive system. If you don't get enough nutrition, your immune system will weaken and you will get sick more often. If you don't get enough omega-3 fatty acids, your brain will malfunction, you will be tired, your mood will lag, and your mental health will suffer.
Food basically completely builds your body from the inside out because of nutrition. The right amount of nutrition will help you to build and repair your muscles, skin, hair, nails, and all of your organs. The nutrition in food basically helps our body to perform properly. You won't turn into a creature besides a human if you don't eat right, but eating right makes your body healthy enough to function properly. Eating the wrong foods will do quite the opposite. Something else we take into our body is experiences- and happy experiences that make us laugh can heal us. The Benefits of Drinking Water
Food isn’t the only thing that we take in. What we drink matters too, and a lot of people just don’t drink enough water. Water helps you maintain enough fluids in your body. Our body is over 50% water, and drinking water helps to keep you hydrated. Water helps you to feel full instead of overeating, and that's a great way to maintain a healthy weight. Water helps to make your muscles stronger. During and after physical activity, drinking water keeps your body hydrated. It's also great for your skin. Dehydration makes your skin look more wrinkled, while water keeps it moisturized. Drinking enough water helps to filter those kidneys and flush the toxins out of you. Read about the Zodiac Water Signs here: What are Water Signs?
So, how much water should we drink then? There are a couple of different ways you can tell if you’re drinking enough water. One way is through math. Take your body weight, divide it in half, and that is how many ounces of water you should drink. If you weigh 160 pounds, drink at least 80 ounces of water a day. Some people exercise more, are out in heat more, or just feel like they need more, so the color and odor of your urine can tell you all you need to know. If your urine is a strong yellow color and strongly scented, drink more water. Your urine should have a faint odor and be pale yellow or even clear. How Food Harms

What we eat or drink is supposed to fuel the body. If it doesn’t, we are deprived of necessary nutrients. We might eat until we feel full, and not hungry, but our body is basically becoming malnourished because we lack the things we need. When we are not getting what we need, the body suffers. Insufficient liquids cause dehydration. Insufficient protein intake causes stunted growth or exhaustion. Insufficient vitamin D causes anemia. Insufficient calcium intake can cause irregular heart rate and osteoporosis. Another harmful thing to watch for is heartbreak. Food can also harm us. Too much of something can cause problems. Even if a particular food in moderation isn’t toxic- too much can be poisonous. Too much sugar can cause diabetes, weight gain, and cardiovascular issues. Too many of the wrong fats can raise blood pressure, triglycerides in the bloodstream, and high cholesterol- all of which can damage your heart. Overconsumption of carbohydrates can cause all the same problems that eating too much sugar can.
Then, there is another problem thattoo much of a certain food can cause. Some people don’t necessarily eat more than what is commonly recommended of something – but it’s just too much for their body in particular. Some people have sensitivity to milk and can have serious digestive issues when they have much of it. Some people can have a moderate amount of highly acidic foods like tomatoes, chocolate, and citrus, but too much can trigger gastritis symptoms. Some people have serious indigestion issues if they eat too many fried or high fat foods, even though some other people seem to be able to eat all they want and have no problems at all. One trigger food some people can’t handle is chocolate- but it has some magical uses you can read about here: The Food of the Gods/Its Meaning and Lore
More Meat or Vegetables?
That depends on you. Some people believe a vegan lifestyle is the secret to perfect health, and other people swear human beings have evolved to eat meat. Other people balance how much plant-based food with how much animal protein they eat. Other people say they forego as many carbohydrates as possible. Each person you speak with who swears by the things they personally eat and drink for their health has decided for themselves what their bodies need as fuel and healing. They found out somehow what works best for them, and so can you.
Trial and error experiments on your own body will show you what works best. It is estimated that adults need certain amounts of protein per day, and various things like vitamin D and calcium are recommended by experts as well. Your lifestyle including age and activity level will help you decide how much of each nutrient your body needs. If you’re looking to lose weight, build muscle, or become more physically active, those lifestyle changes will be easier to maintain if you support them with the proper nutrition. For example, Harvard has recommendations for how to total the amount of protein you need daily. Read more from Harvard here: How much protein do you need every day? - Harvard Health
Regardless of what experts say, the decision to eat more or less of one or another food is yours. There may be recommendations from medical or scientific experts that make you feel so deprived, you either can’t stick with it – or worse yet- do it for a while , but fall off the wagon of “healthy eating”. That’s one way that binge eating- or eating large amounts of unhealthy foods- happens, and that’s not good for you. Some people have found that allowing themselves treats or “cheat days” from their regular healthy eating days helps keep them focused on healthy eating. Some people even look to holistics as a way to be healthy. Find out if holistics are legit here: Healing Holistically- Is It Legit?
How to Use Food for Healing

Food doesn’t have to be boring or flavorless to heal you. There are some simple things you can incorporate into your own lifestyle to use food to heal. From listening to your own body to experimenting with what foods are best for you, it’s not hard to use food to heal. You just have to pay attention. Read on to find a few simple ways to use food to heal instead of poisoning your body with what you eat and drink.
Respect Your Body
Each person has different needs. Your best friend might be able to eat all the french fries they want, but you can’t have very many without getting nauseous. Don’t eat so many. Some people feel best if they have a second cup of coffee in the afternoon, but you might struggle to get a good night’s sleep if you do. Have decaf coffee instead. Your body reacting to a food is a sign of what it needs. Listen to what your body is telling you to take full advantage of the healing abilities of food. Another way to respect your body is to reject radical independence. Read how here: The Problem with Being Radically Independent
Reject Deprivation
Depriving yourself of the foods you love makes your mental health take a nosedive. Eating too many indulgent foods will damage your body, but imagine a world where we never got the foods that made us happy. Don’t deprive yourself, and you won’t be miserable. Health shouldn’t be something that makes you unhappy.
Be Aware of Emotional Eating
Do you “eat your feelings”? When you’re upset, do you lean on high sugar, high salt, high fat foods to self-soothe? A little comfort food never killed anyone, just be aware of how many of them you eat when you want comfort. Learn ten great tips to control emotions here: The Ten Best Ways to Control Emotions
Don’t Use Food as a Reward
We all deserve rewards for meeting milestones in success, meeting goals, or just making it through a tough week at work. If food becomes what you use to reward yourself for everything, you might overeat, not pay attention to what your body needs, and your health can suffer. Besides, that new sweater you want looks great on you, so reward yourself with that!
Make Good Health a Lifestyle
Good health and bad health don’t happen overnight. They are a regular part of your life. Make the right amount of activity, the right amount of certain foods, the right amount of water, and the right attitude a part of your everyday life. If you're looking to become healthier, making all of these things part of your routine instead of an afterthought will be a big help. You're either a healthy person or you're not. Become one today if you're ready. Another thing to incorporate into your lifestyle is balance and you can read how here: How to Maintain Stability in Your Life
Research and Experiment
It's very important to be proactive in finding out what's healthy for you. While doctors and scientists have guidelines, those guidelines are very general. Some people benefit from moderate alcohol consumption, and others can't endure it. Can you? Some people benefit from eating more vegetables than fruit, and vice versa. Which works best for you? Some people do best with moderate amounts of red meat, but some other people can't stand it. How about you? Read, ask questions, and give yourself time to learn what works best for your own body.
Be Patient
If you have never committed to eating healthy, give yourself time to get used to it. Some people get used to it very quickly, over a period of months. For some people, it takes a number of years. Getting used to new habits takes a long time, and learning what habits are best takes time also. You will have to make adjustments as you find out what works and what doesn't. Just don't give up. Anything worth doing is worth doing long term. The goal of using food to heal your body is to live a long, happy, healthy life. Give it time. Self-love will help you be patient with using food healthfully. Learn how to embrace self-love here: Practicing Self Love
Food heals or harms, and your body does what it can to alert you to which is happening. Your doctor and medical science provides guidelines, but you will have to decide what makes you feel good, and what is making your body heal itself. May food only heal you, never poison you, and may it always taste good make you feel great. So Be It.
